This is how it works.
Shoe Away Hunger, a program under Good in the ‘Hood headquartered in Bloomington, collects then sells the footwear at one of their warehouse locations or from one of their two mobile units. They ask for a suggested donation of only $5.00 a pair. Monies are then used for bulk food purchases for the Food Programs. Shawn Morrison, Good in the ‘Hood Executive Director, shares, “The impact is truly amazing. For every one pair of new or gently-used footwear received, we are able to feed one person with up to 7 days of essential groceries through our Feeding The Future programs. Additionally, many who may not otherwise be able to afford can purchase high-quality footwear. This is particularly important during Minnesota’s cold winter months, now.” |

This 2017 holiday season, Smoke Signals™ Founders: Rosemary Frank & Sheldon Bryant set out to achieve the lofty goal of raising $10,085 for essential groceries to help those individuals and families facing food insecurity.
With the support of generous individuals, families, businesses and organizations, Smoke Signals™ exceeded its stretch goal by $1,365 by collecting 2,090 pair of new and gently used footwear, along with gifts of clothing, toys, and cash donations. |

Rosemary shares, “I can’t be more excited and am so thankful of all those that have supported Smoke Signals. What a thrill to help others in need, especially during the holiday season and Minnesota’s cold winter months. With their support and working with Shoe Away Hunger, A Good in the 'Hood program, we will be able to provide essential groceries for nearly 600 Minnesota families of four for 1-week, while providing high quality footwear for those who otherwise may not be able to afford!"
